Learning and Climate Change
Brian O'Neill is the guest editor of a special issue of Climatic Change which examines the issue of Learning and Climate Change. Papers, based on a conference held at IIASA, cover a variety of topics including the prospects for learning about particular components of the climate system, the consequences of learning for climate change policy, and how learning can sometimes lead us astray.

Energy Research Presented at Economics Conference
Shonali Pachauri and Katarina Zigova presented recent research results at the 31st IAEE International Conference in Istanbul in June. Shonali organized a pre-conference workshop on Energy and Poverty: Clean Cooking Fuels. A report of the workshop was presented at a Dual Plenary session at the conference. She also presented work on determinants of recent trends in electrification in India. Katarina presented work on differences across U.S. households in how energy consumption responds to price changes.
PCC Work Cited in Nature
Nature Reports – Climate Change recently published a story on population and climate that quoted PCC program leader Brian O’Neill and cited two recent PCC studies: one on aging and emissions in the U.S. , and another on urbanization and emissions in India and China.
Review of Lomborg's "Cool It"
Brian O'Neill has published a review of Bjorn Lomborg's recent book arguing that the risks of climate change are overblown. O'Neill finds that while the book raises questions worth thinking about, ultimately it is too unbalanced and inaccurate to contribute much to productive debate. The review appears in the latest issue of Population and Development Review.
New Work on Climate Uncertainty
PCC Postdoc Katsumasa Tanaka presented new results suggesting the previous work has under-estimated the uncertainty in climate sensitivity. Uncertainty in this key parameter of climate models is one of the primary obstacles to framing policies that would achieve long-term climate change goals. Tanaka's presentation was part of a session at the European Geophysical Union Meeting in March.
